Finding Disability Grants for Education
The term “disability” connotes many meanings depending on one’s perception. But according to the World Health Organization (WHO), disability is:
“An umbrella term, covering impairments, activity limitations, and participation restrictions. Impairment is a problem in body function or structure; an activity limitation is a difficulty encountered by an individual in executing a task or action; while a participation restriction is a problem experienced by an individual in involvement in life situations. Thus, disability is a complex phenomenon, reflecting an interaction between features of a person’s body and features of the society in which he or she lives.”
Generally, the term disability is a “stumbling block” for both children and adults that prevent them from performing everyday tasks. But one’s disability should not hinder an individual from pursuing higher levels of education no matter what his physical or mental status may be. There are various grants available to students with disabilities to help them pay for their education.
When seeking for grants for your education, it is best to begin with the state and federal government, as well as some private businesses and foundations. You can also try to ask colleges and/ or universities in your place if they have grants allotted for disabled students. The likelihood that these institutions have grants for you is high as many colleges and universities are very accommodating of the needs of people with disabilities in their community.

Due to the increasing number of students with disabilities, grants and scholarships being offered by different funding organizations are becoming competitive.
