Grants and Funding Opportunities for the Humane Treatment of Animals in the United States

Animals such as gorillas and chimpanzees are often the subject of inhumane testing and experimentations initiated by scientific and educational facilities to advance human dominance and knowledge. According to the Arcus Foundation, the United States remains unfazed on its policies in using chimpanzees as guinea pigs in cruel and invasive research.

According to a report released by the United States Department of Agriculture in 2005, a total of 1,177,566 different animals were used as subjects for experiments with dangerous and life-threatening repercussion. Test subjects involved were dogs, cats, primates, and domesticated and farm animals such as pigs and sheep, hamsters, and guinea pigs.

Other animal cruelties involve domesticate violence among house pets like cats and dogs and the soulless butchery of household animals to be used for unnecessary human consumption. These unfortunate events prompt various non-profit organizations in the United States to take a stand and revolt against animal cruelty.

With them are private foundations that award grants to non-profit organizations that will stop at nothing to prevent large scale animal cruelty happening inside America’s uncivilized territories.

Here are a few Foundations guided by their vision to stop the inhumane treatment of animals in the United States:

  • Arcus Foundation – The Arcus Foundation seeks to support the continuous protection of great apes and bring back poached apes back to their natural habitat. The United States continues to use great apes as test subjects in rather inhumane experiments. Arcus funds organizations that work in the long-term protection and survival of great apes involving gorillas, chimpanzees, orangutans, bonobos, and gibbons.

  • Arthur L. & Elaine V. Johnson Foundation – Animals like seeing eye dogs are useful companions for people suffering from blindness and other debilitating condition such as paraplegia. The Foundation fervently supports non-profit organizations that provide care and support for German Shepherd seeing eye dogs and other important animals that assist handicapped individuals to live happy, normal lives.

  • The Bernice Barbour Foundation – The Bernice Barbour Foundation has a much larger scope. The Foundation supports programs that aim to preserve companion and marine-life animals in the United States. The Bernice Barbour Foundation advocates veterinary care and research for animals plagued with life-threatening illnesses.

  • Foundation for Protection of Animals – The Foundation hopes to establish strong and mutual bonds between humans and companion animals. The Foundation believes that pet ownership is the solution to the emerging problem of pet homelessness in the United States. The Foundation also invests in funding rescue operations for animals caught in natural or man-made catastrophes.
